Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes Rhodesia Past Primo Silver Badge

An interesting antique silver Past Primo badge, from the Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) branch of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (Buffs). The badge is very ornate, with central Buffalo head, complete with horns and red cabochon eyes (not sure if these are rubies?). The head is surrounded by blue enamel belt buckle, Past - Primo, set on a very ornate and finely engraved background of scrolls and flowers. The badge is suspended from a scroll with Buffalo horn, engraved Rhodesia, with bar at the back for attachment to a ribbon. The badge is quite large and heavy, quite good quality. The back is engraved "Presented to Primo T. Longmore for Valuable Services Rendered 1907". The hallmarks are very clear, including makers mark for Arthur Fenwick, who specialized in medallions, the suspension bar is also hallmarked. Early Georgian Rococo Silver Shell Shaped Punch Ladle - Philip Roker II

A fabulous early Georgian Rococo shell shaped punch ladle, in the shape of a conch shell. The ladle is embossed and engraved in typical Rococo style with a bird (peacock?) eating fruit (grapes and a pear), alongside a brick chimney with flames? at the top, surrounded with scrolls, shells, flowers and leaves. The shape of the shell and quality of the embossing and engraving is very pleasing. The shell is connected to the silver handle base with cast silver scrolls at right angles to the shell, the handle itself is turned wooden handle. The ladle is held hanging vertically, the the shape of the shell and pouring lip makes it very practical to use. The base of the handle is engraved with original owners initials A over T.T. The ladle is hallmarked with London hallmarks for 1752, and makers marks PR for Philip Roker II (Grimwade mark 3754). Russian Silver Trompe L'Oeil Kvass Jug

An unusual Russian silver kvass jug in Trompe L'Oeil style ("deceive the eye"), which is a type of chased decoration designed to imitate a surface or texture, to create a 3D impression. The jug is typically Russian in style, and the texturing imitates rush work or raffia (woven birch wood strips). The detail is amongst the best we have seen, the silversmith was definitely a true artist. The interior of the jug is gilded, and the hallmarks on the base are clear, although part of the makers mark is worn. The handle also has the St Petersburg hallmark. The assay master is Aleksandr Frans Fan der Flit (or van der Vliet), who worked in St Petersburg 1882 to 1894, his Cyrillic initials are AF, source www.925-1000.com. This assay master is described as unknown by Watts (Russian Silversmiths Hallmarks 1700-1917, Geoffrey Watts, pg 73). Royal Silver Brandy Saucepan - Queen Victoria, Prince Christian Victor, Boer War

An important Royal silver brandy saucepan, which was given by Queen Victoria to her grandson Prince Christian Victor (Christle) of Schleswig-Holstein in 1868 as a christening present. The quality of the saucepan is excellent, it is the usual bulbous shape with a spout and turned ivory handle. It has a detachable domed lid, with a hinged projection for covering the spout, and an ivory and silver finial. The interior is gilt, it sits on a raised foot and has the traditional heart shaped join between body and handle. The saucepan and lid are both decorated with scrolling foliage and flowers, which is beautifully engraved. The lid fits snugly, the hinge is excellent, and the handle and finial are firmly secure. The saucepan is engraved "From his Grandmama Victoria R, 14 April 1868" on the front, the back has a scrolling foliate cartouche with the engraved initials "CV" below a coronet. Georgian Silver Madeira Wine Label - Unregistered Makers Mark

A Georgian silver wine label, with original engraving for Madeira, by the Phipps family of silversmiths, who have been described as one of the best known London firms producing labels (Wine Labels 1730-2003, page 168). The label is rectangular with fully rounded ends, and has a reeded border (note this is classified as a rectangular label rather than an oval label, which are more eye shaped (Wine labels page 51). The label has 2 holes for the suspensory rings connected to the original chain. The label is also engraved with original owners initials RB on the back just above the hallmarks. The hallmarks are very crisp and clear, they could not be better, the detail of hair on the duty mark and mane on the lion passant are clearly visible. The makers mark is interesting, TP over ER in quatrefoil punch, without pellets. Canadian Antique Silver Ecclesiastical Communion Footed Paten - James Langford, Halifax, Nova Scotia

A rare Canadian antique silver Ecclesiastical Communion Paten, made by James Langford in Halifax, Nova Scotia, circa 1840. The paten is beautifully engraved with IHS under a cross, enclosed in a sunburst, this engraving is still very clear, with very little wear. The paten is circular, quite small at 8 cm diameter, and sits on a raised circular foot. The quality is excellent, the weight is very pleasing, no expense was spared when this was made. The IHS monogram stands for "Jesus Saviour of Humankind", and is used by various churches, it is also the emblem of the Jesuit order. The hallmarks are also clearly struck and in excellent condition, they have been preserved from wear by a slight indent in the base of the foot. Highland Light Infantry Antique Silver Kilt Sash Brooch - MacKenzie Tartan

A magnificent Highland Light Infantry antique silver kilt sash brooch, used to hold the shoulder plaid in place. The brooch has the monogram HLI inside the Infantry French bugle horn, set on the diamond cut Star of the order of the Thistle, with Imperial King's crown above, and "ASSAYE" scroll and elephant below. This is surrounded by a thistle wreath with 30 battle honours, all earned before 1914, these include: "Carnatic, Hindustan, Sholingur, Mysore, Gibraltar 1780-83, Seringapatam, Assaye, Cape of Good Hope 1806, Rolica, Vimiera, Corunna, Busaco, Fuentes d'Onor, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajos' Almaraz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, Toulouse, Peninsula, Waterloo, South Africa 1851-2-3, Egypt 1882, Tel-el-Kebir, Modder River, South Africa 1899-1902". The wreath is surrounded by an engraved scrolling border.
