A beautiful pair of Art Nouveau or Jugendstil 800 silver milk or cream jugs, decorated with applied poppies, these are very small jugs, they could almost be described as miniature. The milk jugs are baluster in shape, with a generous pouring lip, and double scroll handles, and flat bases. The interiors are gilded, we can imagine these being used with expresso coffee cups. Both jugs are clearly hallmarked with 4 hallmarks, the German Crown and Crescent mark used after 1888, makers mark LW intertwined in a shield for Lutz & Weiss, 800 standard mark and a lion passant also used by Lutz & Weiss. Lutz & Weiss Silberwarenfabriek was founded in 1882 in Pforzheim, they were an important German firm of silversmiths.

A Victorian miniature silver brandy saucepan in the traditional shape, with turned bone? handle. The saucepan has an engraved family crest of a an eagle with talons and wings outstretched, the engraving is very clear. the base is clearly hallmarked for London 1865, with makers mark RS for Richard Sibley II, (mark 2440 in Grimwade), his father Richard Sibley I also used this mark, Richard Sibley II worked between 1829 and 1873. The saucepan is also marked "Thomas Bond St." for FB Thomas & Co, a well known firm of retail silversmiths who operated from 153 Bond Street between 1807 and 1943 (the shop was severely damaged in an air-raid in 1941). Francis Boone Thomas joined the family business in 1851, he died in 1900. Richard Sibley II supplied many items of silver to FB Thomas between 1847 and 1873, in fact they shared premises, so must have had a close informal partnership.

A beautiful pair of miniature antique silver pastry servers, well preserved in their original box, made by the prestigious firm of Asprey. The servers are in the Kings Husk pattern, single struck, this is a variant of the Kings pattern without the central honeysuckle decoration, and a husk shell. Both servers are a similar size and shape, one had a flat spade shape blade and the other has a serrated prong front, so quite versatile. The hallmarks on both are very clear, including makers mark CA.GA for Charles & George Asprey, they used this mark between 1892 and 1909. Both servers are also hallmarked "Asprey London", this is very clear. The silk lined leather box reads "Asprey 186 Bond St London". Asprey was founded in 1781, and still operates today with a reputation as one of the world's leading luxury brands, they still trade from Bond Street. They hold numerous Royal warrants, at the time these servers were made they had a warrant from King Edward VII. Note: We have a similar pair, S 1952, but made in 1906...

An antique sterling silver shoe, we hesitate to call it miniature as it is almost real size, perhaps a child's size, we assume originally intended as a sugar bowl. It is in the traditional form as silver miniature shoes, a replica of a 16th century court shoe, profusely decorated with flowers, leaves and scrolls, with a bow on the front, and shaped heel at the back. it has been well preserved in its original box (silk and velvet, a good quality box), the box reads "Cutler Jeweller Jersey". The shoe is clearly hallmarked, the hallmarks hidden in the decoration but clearly legible, the base of the heel is also hallmarked. JF Cutler was a prestigious Jeweller who operated from 2 Queen's Street (still a jeweller today trading as Goldsmiths), he is known to have been there between 1900 and 1920.

A Patrick Mavros silver sculpture of a warthog with 2 piglets, on a hard blackwood base. The warthogs are realistically modelled, complete with tusks and raised tail, which allows the baby warthogs (piglets) to follow a parent when running though long savannah grass. One piglet is sitting, scratching it's ear with a hoof, we love this sculpture. The black hardwood base is also lovely, each base is unique. The base has a silver PM button trademark, with PM above Sable Antelope in triangle, the warthogs are also fully hallmarked with PM makers mark and the Zimbabwe sable standard mark (not visible on small sitting piglet). A Brittannia 958 standard silver miniature fish eagle, complete with fish in it's talons. The eagle is realistically modelled, with lovely texture and detail. It is hallmarked 958, indicating Brittania standard grade, so purer than sterling. It stands freely without a base. Stylistically it is quite similar to those produced by Patrick Mavros, so perhaps done by one of his apprentices, almost certainly from Zimbabwe or South Africa where fish eagles are located.

A fabulous set of six antique sterling silver goblets, perfectly preserved in their original box. The goblets are very pleasing quality, over 30 grammes each, and are quite small, so we imagine used for sherry or liqueur. The shape is lovely, a traditional goblet shape, with spreading foot and baluster stem. The goblets are perfectly preserved in their original wooden box, with blue velvet and silk interior, also in remarkable condition, with hinges and clasp in full working order. All 6 goblets are clearly hallmarked for Birmingham 1911, and makers mark W&F.R, for Walter Hayes and Frank Rabone, who worked between 1911 and 1916, with the partnership dissolved in 1918, we assume sadly interrupted by World War 1.

A beautifully modelled solid silver Kudu antelope, with impressive horns, this is very realistic. The kudu is a good size and weight, 2 silver pins on the feet connect it solidly to the wooden base, which has a felt base, this is heavy enough to be a desk paperweight. The kudu is clearly hallmarked, triangle antelope head mark (Zimbabwe), crescent moon makers mark and 865 standard mark, so slightly lower than sterling grade. Realistic animal sculptures by Patrick Mavros of Zimbabwe are held in high esteem, given the quality of the modelling perhaps this silversmith was trained by Mavros. Note - We have now identified the maker as Silver Creations of Harare, Zimbabwe circa 1987, from a similar set accompanied with Certificate of Assay by D Ewing. The owner has also established that Silver Creations has no links with Patrick Mavros. We would like to thank the owner of the set for sharing this information with us. A charming Dutch silver miniature foot stove, also called a foot warmer. The stove is bucket shaped, circular with a swing handle, and has an engraved 6 pointed star on top, with 6 holes on each star point, and a central flower shaped hole. This is surrounded by a zig zag pattern, repeated on the sides (top and bottom), the engraving is done by hand and is a little crude. The aperture on the side (for loading wood or coals) is also shaped in an eight pointed pattern. The base has one hallmark, a makers mark, Z2, for Karel Nicolaas zur Muhlen (mark 22153, in the book Netherlands Responsibility Marks since 1797).Muhlen worked between 1895 and 1905, he moved between Roosendaal, Alkmaar, Arnhem and Hertogenbosch. The handle ring is struck by the Dutch silver dagger, used between 1814 and 1953 on small items. A similar Dutch silver miniature foot stove is depicted in the book "Tall and Small, Antique Dutch Silver Miniatures by Aardewerk, item 40, this one made in 1771 in Amsterdam by Jan Bonket.

A rare Victorian silver postal scale, in full working order. The scale is intended for measuring postal items, so that the correct postage could be applied. This scale would have been used in a wealthy household, not a Post Office. The front is engraved "Postal Scale" on top, on the side "Postal Union Rates 2 1/2 d for each 1/2 ounce." To the left is engraved "English Rates" above measuring scale from 1d - 4d in 1/2 increments. To the right are 2 measures, 1 marked "LB" for pounds (scale 0 to 1 LB), to the right "OZ" for ounces measuring from 1-16. The engraving is exquisite, this is a lovely item. The base is rectangular with a Chippendale rim. The scale also has a knob (for adjusting scale) behind the pan, and a silver screw for opening the scale. The side of the scale is fully hallmarked, a registration number RD 308820, is also present. The top pan is also hallmarked, these are worn from polishing. Levi & Salaman were established in 1870, they were known for their high quality silver novelties...

An interesting antique Dutch silver miniature scale, with 2 circular weighing pans mounted on 4 supports, resting on a table with a drawer with handle. Four weights of different sizes are also present, along with 2 bars, we assume lifters to move the weights. The table is rectangular, on 4 feet with a skirt, and is decorated with S shaped scrolls. The scale is 835 grade silver, typical of continental silver (and slightly lower grade than 925 sterling silver). The scale contains a number of interesting hallmarks, but as they are quite small they are difficult to decipher. The first mark is ZII, which is the Netherlands purity mark for 835 grade silver, (Tardy, International Hallmarks, pg 327). The second mark is Ad81 in a rectangular punch, this is the makers mark for Jacobus van Dam, who worked in Schoonhoven between 1849 and 1888. The 3rd mark is 835 in an oval punch (silver purity mark), the 4th mark is tiny and difficult to read, looks like "42NO". Some additional marks are present, these are indistinct, c...

A pretty Glove button hook, with silver ring for suspension from a chain. The handle is polished honey coloured tigers eye, a gemstone, the silver hook has attractive engraving. Buttonhooks for gloves were much smaller than those used for boots. This could be worn as a necklace pendant. The hallmarks are small but visible.

A delightful Chester silver miniature card box, complete with complete set of "Little Duke" cards. Box and lid are both hallmarked with Chester marks. George Nathan and Ridley Hayes worked between 1897 and 1912, they had premises in Howard Street, Birmingham and also a retail shop at 13 Hatton Gardens, London.

Delightful 8 piece miniature Coffee set including coffeepot, with composition handle, milk jug, sugar basin, 2 cups and saucers, and a two handled tray. The interiors are gilt, and each of the 8 pieces is clearly hallmarked (including the coffee pot lid). Saunders and Sheperd were well known for their miniatures.

Aide memoire with 2 pierced silver covers, with a rose amongst scrolling foliage, and rope border. The silver protects 2 tortoiseshell covers, which in turn cover the ivory pages. Both silver covers are fully hallmarked, as is the clasp. The original owners shopping list is still visible in pencil. This miniature notebook would have hung from a chatelaine. Oldridge was the sole partner of Grey and Co of Great Portland Street. The firm was noted for its novelties, and supplied many leading retailers, including Asprey & Co.

Teapot, sugarbowl, creamer and tray. Teaservice oblong shaped, half fluted. Tray oval with two handles, ball feet and lattice design over wooden base. Gilt interiors. All items Birmingham except sugarbowl which has a Chester hallmark. All items fully hallmarked with clear hallmarks, even the teapot lid!

An extremely rare miniature silver coffee pot by the Huguenot John Hugh Le Sage, subordinate goldsmith to the King. The coffee pot is early Rococo style, with relief chasing of flowers and scrolls around the base and border below the cover. As is expected with early Rococo (1740 - 1750), large areas are left blank, only after 1750 did full Rococo develop which filled in the blanks. The swan neck spout is leaf wrapped, and the wooden handle has a typical double C scroll. The lid, which is richly decorated, has a stepped dome cover and acorn finial. The pot also has a tucked in base and stand-away hinge. The only hallmarks are the makers mark (script JS underneath crown) struck 3 times on the base (Grimwade 1680, Jacksons pg 192). As per the plate act of 1739, silver toys were exempted from assay, and only required the makers mark. A number of silver toys have been attributed to John Hugh Le Sage, many of which today reside in museums, including the Henry Ford Museum (USA) and the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&...
